Tip for Dining and drinking in America: Those who work for tips such servers at restaurants are paid less than the minimum wage requirement. Therefore, unless you’re very unsatisfied by the service or food of the restaurant, you are expected to pay some tip to the server. If it is a fast food table, no tip. If it is a table at a restaurant, 15-20 per cent for the waiter is standard. If you leave less than 15 per cent, staff will assume you weren’t happy with their service. It is almost never okay to withhold a tip; if you’re considering doing that, you should also be considering complaining to the manager. As for coffee shops, despite the increasing prevalence of tip jars, no tip is needed, maybe just the change if you paid in cash.
